Bringing real nature indoors, without the effort
Bringing a little more nature indoors through Botanical Décor, Terrariums, Paludariums & Living Systems replicated from nature’s ecosystems because nature has a way of changing how a space and even a person feels when we are close to it, so why not bring it indoors?
A room feels softer with something living in it. A desk feels less sterile. A shelf, windowsill, entrance, or quiet corner can feel calmer, softer, and more alive when nature is brought indoors with care.
The Bottled Garden exists to help people bring nature indoors through thoughtfully selected plants, terrariums, paludariums, commissioned botanical designs and related consumables, tools and accesorites. We aim to offer more information and practical guidance that makes living systems easier to enjoy and understand.
The Bottled Garden offers curated indoor plants, terrariums, paludariums and living botanical systems designed to bring nature into homes and workspaces with less effort.
Nature does not exist as isolated parts. Plants, moisture, light, soil, stone, and air all work together over time to create a beautiful web of connected life. The Bottled Garden is built on this understanding, and fascination, of the interconnectedness between organisms and their environment to create intricate living systems. So whether it is a single indoor plant or an automated terrarium installation, our goal is not simply to add decoration to an indoor space, but actually introduce something living that becomes part of how a room feels.
Based in Durban, a growing nature brand specialising in ecology-led terrarium design and helping people connect with more real nature at home with less offer. The small business began in 2021 as a terrarium design studio and has reestablished, refreshed and re-lauched its focus on making nature more accessible to everyone.
Now curating a selection of indoor, terrarium and rare plant collections tailored for beginner-friendly starter species, to rare horticultural cultivars.
Our Terrarium and paludariums units start with simply plantings and range up to complex, self-sustaining and automated installations, to promote visual calm and a personal connection with nature that has a positive effect on wellbeing.
Whether you are starting with your first easy-care plant or designing your dream ecosystem and aesthetic with a custom terrarium, our approach stays the same:
intentional system design, sustainable species selection, and practical guidance, to offer indoor living systems from nature designed to be stunning representations without becoming unmanageable or intimidating to keep.
Because no two ecosystems are the same
